In a nutshell, Vartec offered a plan that allowed me to call anywhere within my area code with no long distance fees. I switched from Pacific Bell (who I was very satisfied with, except they did not offer the 'Vartec Plan') and tried it for a month. Just about all of my calls within my area code were billed as long distance. I made the first of many, many, many calls over a three year period and was assured the service would be dropped. I immediately notified Pacific Bell who reinstated my service. The bogus fees alleged by Vartec were paid in full, and I thought that was the end of them..".

More bills, threatening phone calls, and absolute rudeness from the employees continued/. I eventually was connected to a supposed supervisor who reviewed the case and assured me that nothing was owed and it was a mistake on their part that would be corrected immediately?. NOT!!! The threatening letters continued/.

I contacted Pacific Bell who offered to send proof that we were their clients during the disputed period?. They sent it directly to Vartec;. I received another threratening letter and phoned Vartec once again". I waited on hold for a supervisor for about 45 minutes and was finally told that they had received the letter from Pacific Bell and I could disregard any future correspondence from Vartec!.

A year or two later I was contacted by Midland Funding who yelled, threatened, and offered to let me off the hook if I paid half of the bogus amount owed. For $40.00 I could have had them out of my life! Midland is apparently the company that bought the list of alleged debts and tries to milk consumers for 'free' money. I'm not one to run from a charging dog, so I semi-politely invited them to....take a vacation! Pay money for something that was totally fabricated? I don't thing so. I researched on-line and found a site that had folks who had the same experience from Vartec/Midland and suggested writing "I do not owe this bill" on the next letter. I did that and heard nothing more...that is until I recently applied for a home loan and saw it on my, otherwise sparkling, credit report!

I am in the middle of disputing the allegation with the credit bureau so we'll see what happens.

After all that has been done to me and others like me, I wonder where our Better Business Bureau and other enforcement agencies are. This is criminal activity that has been allowed to continue.

I guess the moral to this story is: Don't pay anything you don't owe to either Vartec or Midland, and be sure to suggest that they.... take a vacation! 129773b
